I just had hernia surgery 2 days ago, but that doesn’t stop me from marveling at Davydenko’s prowess again as he continues great form into 2010 with a hard fought win over the #2 player in the world, Rafa Nadal 0-6, 7-6 (10-8), 6-4. He saved 2 match points in the second set to earn the Qatar Exxon Mobil Open winner’s trophy in Doha, Qatar. Davydenko, coached by his brother Eduard, earned five titles in 2009 and starts this year right off with a title in his debut tourney of 2010. The slight player has made the most of his ability and speed with twenty career titles, winning at least one tournament for the past eight seasons. His achilles seems to be the slams, where he has yet to make a final. Perhaps 2010 will be his breakout in a slam at the Australian Open, starting next week at Melbourne Park.
