I’ve watched this 21-year old Latvian for a couple years now. I immediately took notice of his talent, reminiscent of Marat Safin and Goran Ivanisevic. Lanky and mobile, this man can hit winners from anywhere. Nowhere was this more evident than in his latest match versus clay-king Nadal in Rome. Gulbis, despite being on clay and playing the speediest man on the tour, racked a very impressive 50 winners in a losing effort, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, in Rome, according to the ATP Tour website.
I personally believe that Gulbis will crack the top 20 in the next year. I also believe he has a couple slams in him if he has the nerve, because he certainly has the game.
