Mardy Fish wins first round of US Open convincingly

Mardy Fish wrapped up his first round win in the 2011 U.S. Open over German Tobias Kamke, 6-2, 6-2, 6-1. This continues his impressive North American tennis campaign and keeps America’s best hope for a grand slam title alive in 2011.
Meanwhile, American transplant Maria Sharapova survived a game threat from across the pond in Heather Watson, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.
Another American, who many in the U.S. feel is the future at 19, Ryan Harrison, had a disappointing first day in Flushing Meadow, going out 6-2, 7-5, 7-6 (6) against Marin Cilic of Croatia, who has had a sub-par year so far.
